Social and Emotional Learning
The Marlboro Township Public School District is a relationship-centered learning community working with educators, parents, and community members to assist all students in cultivating the foremost Social-Emotional Character Development values and skills necessary to successfully navigate current experiences and future endeavors.
Social and emotional learning (SEL) enhances students’ capacity to integrate skills, attitudes, and behaviors to deal effectively and ethically with daily tasks and challenges. MTPS has paired The Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning (CASEL)’s SEL Competencies to our district pillars. Like many similar frameworks, CASEL’s integrated framework promotes intrapersonal, interpersonal, and cognitive competence. There are five core competencies that can be taught in many ways across many settings. Many educators and researchers are also exploring how best to assess these competencies. All MTPS schools use the same guiding questions to assist students in understanding the importance of SEL as well as foster skill development.
